About Care Colab

Built by someone who's been there

Care Colab comes from lived experience. My sister and I cared for both of our parents through a long, complex, and often chaotic situation. We were constantly trying to coordinate appointments, documents, updates, decisions, and day-to-day responsibilities across phone calls, text chains, WhatsApp threads, notes apps, spreadsheets, hospital paperwork, and memory.

What stayed with me most was how much of the work was invisible. One person quietly carries the context, repeats the updates, remembers the details, and tries to keep everything from falling apart. I wanted something that could hold more of that burden - something that could make the work more visible, help people collaborate more clearly, and reduce how much had to live in one person's head.

When I couldn't find that tool, I started building it.

I was not starting from scratch. Before this I spent years as a product designer working in health technology, a good deal of it in rooms with seniors, caregivers, and the people who support them. That work is where I learned that what happened in my family is not unusual, and that almost everyone carrying it feels like it is.

What Care Colab is

Care Colab is a collaborative platform for organizing information around a care situation. It brings together notes, documents, tasks, events, conversations, and summaries in one place, so the people involved can stay aligned without relying on scattered tools or one person's memory.

At the center of the product are CoLabs - flexible shared workspaces that you can shape around whatever your situation needs. A CoLab can help you prepare for appointments, keep family updated, track responsibilities, organize files, or simply create one place where the full picture lives.

Care often involves trial and error. Families are constantly adjusting, testing what helps, responding to change, and figuring things out as they go. A CoLab is a space to do that work together.

Care Colab is not meant to replace human care, medical advice, or hard conversations. It is meant to make coordination less chaotic and collaboration more possible.

What Care Colab stands for

  • Privacy matters. Information related to care is deeply personal. Care Colab stores data in Canada, gives people control over sharing, and aims to be clear about how the product works.
  • Collaboration matters. Care often falls too heavily on one person. Care Colab is designed to make responsibilities, updates, and contributions more visible so more of the load can be shared.
  • Flexibility matters. No two families or care situations work the same way. Care Colab is designed to adapt to how people actually organize, rather than forcing everyone into one rigid system.
  • Empathy matters. This product is shaped by real caregiving experience, grief, stress, and the reality that even small improvements can matter a lot when people are overwhelmed.

Built as a benefit company

Every company has values on a page somewhere. Care Colab Solutions Ltd. is incorporated as a benefit company under British Columbia's Business Corporations Act, which means these ones are written into the company's articles rather than its marketing. Directors are legally required to weigh the public benefits below alongside the interests of shareholders, not simply to maximize return.

The company commits to:

  • Supporting the work of caregiving. Providing accessible technology that helps families, individuals, and care providers organize, share, and retain context around the care of their loved ones.
  • Reducing the burden and the friction. Easing the stress, administrative work, and interpersonal tension that come with caregiving - particularly within families sharing responsibility - through passive communication, visibility into who is carrying what, and coordination at the level of individual tasks.
  • Protecting caregivers' time and energy. Helping people preserve both for what matters most: direct companionship, physical care, and presence with the person they are caring for.

That last one is an unusual commitment for a software company to make. It obliges Care Colab to help you spend less time coordinating - including less time in Care Colab itself - and more time with the person you are caring for. That is the opposite of optimizing for engagement, and it is a legal commitment rather than a stylistic one.

The company is also open to conversations with investors, funders, and grant programs, particularly Canadian ones aligned with care, health, and social impact. There is more on the invest page.

Where things stand

Care Colab is currently in beta. The product is live, usable, and continuing to evolve through real feedback, ongoing learning, and careful iteration.

I'm taking a deliberate approach: build something genuinely useful, keep improving the core experience, and stay close to the real problems people are trying to solve.
